Dansmasterclass Daniel Linehan!

Choreographer Daniel Linehan comes to Destelheide between March 31 and April 2 to teach a contemporary dance masterclass based on his most recent creation 'dbddbb'. A maximum of 15 advanced amateur dancers can participate in this unique masterclass and thus discover the choreographic language of this young Brussels talent!

Content masterclass?

Daniel Linehan is a Brussels based American choreographer who has made several successful dance performances and is touring internationally with his work. For his last show ‘dbddbb’, Linehan explored the relationship between movement and voice by combining ‘marching’ in its multiple forms (a political march, a sport, a dance party...)  with dadaïst inspired sound poetry. The 'march' tends to be a mass movement which blurs the lines between individual and group. In ‘dbddbb’ Linehan examines the pleasures as well as the perils involved in the forces that bind a group.

During the masterclass, Linehan will share the material and procedures at the base of the creation process of ‘dbddbb’, like games, improvisations, memorized movements, vocal scores, and rhythmic compositions. We also organise a special evening programme that provides a unique insight in his work and vision as a choreographer. (Masterclass in collaboration with Caravan Production)

Bio Daniel Linehan?

Daniel Linehan worked as a dancer and choreographer in New York before moving to Brussels in 2008 to study at P.A.R.T.S. (the dance school of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker). He approaches performance-making from the point of view of a curious amateur, testing various interactions between dance and non-dance forms, searching for unlikely conjunctions, juxtapositions, and parallels between texts, movements, images, songs, videos, and rhythms.

In 2007 he premiered the solo ‘Not About Everything’, which has since been performed in over 75 venues internationally. His most recent projects include ‘Zombie Aporia’ (2011), ‘Gaze is a Gap is a Ghost’ (2012) and 'The Karaoke Dialogues' (2014). He also works on particular projects such as the book ‘A no can make space’ (2013) or ‘Vita Activa’, a workshop about time and work. In 2015 he created ‘Un Sacre du Printemps’ with 13 P.A.R.T.S.-graduates.

From 2012 to 2014 Daniel Linehan was Artiste Associé at deSingel in Antwerp, and New Wave Associate at Sadler’s Wells in London. Since 2013 he is Artist-in-Residence at Opéra de Lille. From 2015 onwards Daniel Linehan is developing his projects within his own organisation Hiatus that is structurally supported by the Flemish Authorities.
